Evolution of a God !!

The title of post might be confusing/impious for many, but I always wanted to write down my thoughts about the above phenomenon.

To start with, I should explain what does Godliness means to me. It pertains to an entity, real/fictitious, seen/unseen but believed to be omnipresent/omnipotent. Gods are considered as sacred, caring, always righteous and the reason behind every creation. People want to believe in their powers, when things are going out of their own hands. There are books/myths/realities narrating their divine/superhuman/magical powers. Some books are totally meant for describing their teachings and how they should be incorporated in a person's daily life. They have their own reserved houses, where prayers/sacrifices can be offered, and days in respective calendars, when their followers should worship them without fail. All these things constitutes various facets of a religion started by the followers of a particular god.

Now, the question is how do Gods evolve ?? The major contributors, as understood by me, are people & time. Every era, has some persons who are treated as sacred/'close to God' by others. Reasons can be plenty. People find it comfortable to follow/listen to such persons during adverse times of their life. They start offering prayers and respecting them, in ways of their own, assuming this will lead to salvation. Concrete structures are built symbolizing faith in them. Their teachings get published whether on banana leaves/stones/walls/paper depending on the means available in that era. Not to forget, with the change of times, the views/philosophies of these persons get modified.
Who is the culprit ? Some of their own intelligent powerful followers !!
What is the motive ? To achieve specific interests and be supreme !!
Why play with the teachings ? Because they form the basis of a religion which people follow blindly and fear !!

Time moves on and so does the number of people, following these symbols/teachings. The faith becomes stronger and feeling grow deeper. The person behind these feelings acquires a Godly status in the minds of his followers. Hence, with time, a new God is created with a philosophy of his own which is powerful enough to later constitute the basis for a new religion.

Just to clear any doubts, I am a religious person believing in the existence of these unconceivable elements and love them unconditionally.

Nice analysis of the God myth/belief. The dichotomous expression of your unconditional belief in the last lines is something most Indians can relate to. We build bridges, dams, houses even rockets after seeking the blessings of God. Our huge number of Gods is the outcome of the fact that every action in our society has been assigned a spiritual caretaker. And we keep improvising too. For example Cricket came into existence a century back(or 2) and now Tendulkar has been assigned as the God of Cricket :)
Keep it up Sachin. More posts...
